Author Information

Thank you for considering submitting to the Journal of Clinical Psychology Practice. The tone of this journal is one of peer support and collaborative editing and not peer rejection.

Submissions to the journal can be divided into the areas: opinion, practice, research, and review.

  • Opinion articles provide topical commentary on current issues that may influence the practice of clinical psychology or the delivery of health care in general.  Although opinion articles reflect the personal experience of the author, these articles should strive to be respectful and collegial.

  • Practice articles encompass a broad spectrum of issues that are directly relevant to clinical practice.  Topics may include clinical methods and models, ethics, legal and jurisprudence issues, training, supervision, and registration, as well as articles on general practice procedures and management.  Print and multimedia resources that have been developed for your practice are also welcome and may include audio files, images, information handouts, brochures, and general clinical forms.

  • Research articles include quantitative, qualitative, and survey-based original research.  Case studies are welcome as are comprehensive literature reviews, conceptual and theoretical papers, and program evaluations.  Articles that focus on method issues with an emphasis on statistics and psychometrics are also appropriate. Statistical and psychometric papers should be written to a general audience.

  • Review articles provide an overview of any resource that may be of interest to the practice of clinical psychology and may include books, movies, websites, and software.

Style

Manuscripts may be prepared using either (1) the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Fifth or Sixth Edition, or (2) the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (www.icmje.org).  Both formats are acceptable.  Whereas Research articles normally follow a clear format and style, Opinion, Practice, and Review articles may be less formal and written with a more open style.  Depending on their complexity and length, Opinion, Practice, and Review manuscripts may benefit from an abstract or short summary.  For indexing purposes, all manuscripts should include 3 to 5 keywords following the abstract or summary, or on the title page.  Tables may be appended on a separate page or they may be inserted directly into the manuscript at their appropriate location.  Figures should be sent separately and ideally in TIFF format due to that format's superior compression.

Submission and Review Process

Please submit your manuscript directly by email to editor@jcpp.scarthmckillop.ca. With your manuscript, please provide your contact information and, if possible, a brief biographical sketch.  Review of submitted manuscripts is intended to be collaborative and respectful.  The emphasis of review is to assist you in publishing your manuscript and any comments or suggestions for change will be shared.
